A Few Thoughts on the State of the Union Address
By Natasha Hazlett on Feb 2, 2010 in On the Hill
Every pundit in the land is giving their take on Obama Oblame-a’ s speech. To keep things fresh on Say What?!?, I’ve purposely not listened to those folks (thanks DVR!) before I write my own opinions…but as soon as I’m done, I can’t wait to hear the talking heads! Without further ado, here are my top 10 thoughts on the State of the Union.
10. Nancy Pelosi has a striking resemblance to a Jack-in-the Box. Biden should’ve put some Super Glue on her seat.
9. Obama looked from right to left more tonight than the Queen at Wimbeldon. I was dizzy after the first five minutes…
8. Am I the only one who thinks a “tax credit” for energy efficient homes is a total crock? Unless the government is buying everything for me- I have a feeling that this ISN’T a money-making proposition. More importantly, I’m not a fan of light bulbs that require a Hazmat team if one breaks.
7. Obama showed his true liberal colors tonight. He’s an elitist snob that is out of touch with the American people. Comments like “That’s how budgeting works,” “let me repeat” (are we deaf, or just so stupid that you need to repeat it for us?) and my personal favorite– where Oblame-a says “I take my share of the blame for not explaining it more clearly to the American people.”
Oh, so maybe if you EXPLAIN it to us dummies, we would agree with it…. Did it ever occur to Obama that we UNDERSTAND what he’s doing, we just don’t like it? Or perhaps he’s such a narcissist that he couldn’t fathom Americans not falling in line with his liberal schemes.
6. Only a President with a lack of respect for the concept of “Separation of Powers” (you know, from that pesky old document called the Constitution) would lash out at the United States Supreme Court for a recent court decision, and then suggest that the legislature immediately overturn the Supreme Court’s ruling.
As if that wasn’t bad enough, the Democrats lept on board by standing up and applauding Obama’s unacceptable comment. Apparently Justice Alito wasn’t a fan- watch his expression to Obama’s comment at minute 8:40 here. To think that these were the same folks who wanted to tar and feather Joe Wilson over his “You Lie” outburst…How very Chavez of you, Mr. President to attempt intimidate our Supreme Court.
5. Obama suggested in true populist form that taxpayers deserved to recoup the money they loaned to banks. His solution–impose a fee on the “Big Banks.” This policy was, of course, followed by thunderous applause by the Democrat sheep. What I want to know is when am I, the taxpayer, going to get my money from the Big Bad Bank fee fund? Why do I have a sneaking suspicion that the drunken spenders in D.C. are going to go on a binge with my money as soon as they collect it? Why do I also have the feeling that the Big Bad Bank is going to ultimately pass this “fee” onto me, as a customer? I know I’m just an dumb ‘ol conservative, but I think we’re going to get screwed on this one…
4. Perhaps this goes back to the elitist snob observation, but does Obama really think that Americans are just going to change their opinon of him after he notes that “he hasn’t raised our taxes one cent”. Hmmmm. News Flash for the President:
First, we are well-aware that all you did in 2009 in regards to tax cuts was to simply leave the BUSH tax cuts in place. You don’t get credit for that one.
Second, Americans know that only a complete moron would have raised taxes in the biggest economic slump since the Great Depression. So you don’t get credit for the idea of leaving the BUSH taxcuts in place either.
Most importantly, you, Mr. President, should realize that Americans are forward-looking. We know what’s on the horizon- massive tax increases on top of higher insurance premiums, bank fees, gas prices and energy prices thanks to the Health Care, Banking, Immigration and Cap and Trade policies that Obama reaffirmed for us tonight. So, excuse us if we aren’t leaping for joy right now at your policies….we see the writing on the wall.
3. Obama’s quote “I know that there are those who disagree with the overwhelming scientific evidence on climate change” made the entire chamber burst into riotous laughter. How many people do you think were laughing AT him, instead of WITH him? How about the Americans sitting at home chattering due to the insanely cold temperatures this winter?
Is the President seriously going to hang onto the ridiculous notion that there is “overwhelming scientific evidence on climate change” when just a few months ago we discovered that some of the leading scientists of this alleged “overwhelming” scientific evidence were, umm….lying?
2. Did the President really bring up the fake “2 million jobs created or saved” in his State of the Union address? Have there not been sufficient reports (even from the State Media Outlets) that have informed Americans that the White House’s figures are totally fudged? Does the President think we’re still buying that crap or did his speech writer get lazy and throw in some of the old material? I think we all are aware that the 2 million job figure is a complete joke- unless of course, you think that a job with an annual salary of $12.56 constitutes a “job created”.
1. Contary to all of the Pre-SOTU pundit commentary that Obama would follow in Clinton’s footsteps”and “pivot to the center,” I didn’t buy that argument for a second. Obama is doubling-down on his radical liberal agenda: Government Health Care, Cap and Trade and Immigration Reform. He IS that Radical- and I can only hope that a flood of Americans will stop this speeding train from running off the track.
