Disrespect in the White House

Everytime I hear this clip from Obama, I get chills down my spine…
But today, I saw something that reminded me of this clip.
This is a recent picture of Obama with his feet on the Resolute Desk! Not only was I shocked to see this, I was even more furious to discover that this isn’t the first time Obama has pulled this stunt.
For those of you who haven’t seen National Treasure 2 or aren’t history buffs- the Resolute desk was a gift from Queen Victoria to President Rutherford B. Hayes in 1880 that was built from the timbers of the British barque-rigged ship Resolute. It is the desk often chosen by U.S Presidents for use in the Oval Office. One of the most memorable pictures of this desk was during JFK’s administration:
(LIfe – Stanley Tretick)
Many presidents since Rutherford Hayes have used the desk, with some notable exceptions in the 20th century such as: Harry Truman, Dwight Eisenhower, Lyndon Johnson, Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford.
George W. Bush commenmoratingthe American with Disabilities Act in the Oval Office in 2005. (White House – Eric Draper)
Hoover used the Resolute desk in today’s Lincoln Bedroom- circa 1930. (NARA)
Secretary of State John Hay signs a peace treaty with Spain at the Resolute desk in President McKinley’s office, circa 1899 (Library of Congress – Frances Benjamin Johnston)
Below is a picture of the front of the desk:

Suffice it to say, this is a national treasure and not some dumpy desk from Wal-Mart. I’m not sure about you, but I was taught from a young age not to put my feet on the furniture. Apparently Obama was either not taught such basic etiquette OR he has absolutely no respect for our nation’s history. I’m starting to think it’s the latter…
This is the guy who admittedly wants to “fundamentally transform” this nation. What better way than simply disrespect historical artifacts in the White House? The more “casual” he is about matters of historical significance, the more the masses may become desensitized to such traditions. We should’ve seen this coming… remember this?

If the President wants the Oval Office to be functional, that’s perfectly fine. If our national treasures make him uncomfortable, with all of that history of freedom and stuff, I get it… But he needs to get his staff to load up the Oval Office with furniture from Pottery Barn, instead of throwing his feet up on gifts to our nation from Queen Victoria.
That’s not all, though….according to Liberal Loon Ed Schultz, Obama has turned the White House into a Shrine TO HIMSELF:
SCHULTZ: First of all you walk into the White House, in the West Wing, and there are picture all over, I mean everywhere! Of President Obama! I mean, of his life in the first year as president of the United States. Now I don’t know if that’s the way it is with every president, but it was almost a shrine. I mean, well, here’s a picture of Obama the president with his kids over here. There he is getting on Air Force One. Here he is with some military people. Here he is on the line working the line at one of his campaign stops. I mean, just, it was just one picture after another! (laughs)
Is that the way it is with every other president? No, it isn’t.
Here’s what Glenn Beck had to say on his radio show about the Shrine:
I have only been in the White House one time in the West Wing. It was with the last president. And what struck me was I was actually kind of hacked off. I don’t know if you remember when I came back from the White House, I was hacked off and I said, there is so much art on the walls that you have never seen before. The Spirit of ‘76, Washington crossing the Delaware, one of the smaller versions of that is in the West Wing. Norman Rockwells, a Norman Rockwell I have never seen before. All of this beautiful art. That’s what was on the wall, and it was all about America, its founding. I saw the Gilbert Stuart of George Washington, saw beautiful painting of Abraham Lincoln. It’s amazing what’s on the walls, what was on the walls in the West Wing of the White House. Incredible. The only time I saw pictures, I saw pictures of the president with his family and pictures of his family on his desk. That’s the only time I remember seeing pictures. I think there was one other where they had a portrait of him, you know the kind of thing that they put in school and stuff like that. There was one. It was appropriate. I think it was by the door or something. It was kind of like, this is our current president. But everything else, they were all old pictures of paintings, of presidents and moments in American history.
Now, I just got a note from a friend of mine who said, Glenn, I was just in the White House for three hours. Inside, the walls are covered with 11 by 14 framed photos of the president in various activities. According to the Secret Service they are taken all of the time and changed weekly. I would estimate there are 300 photos around the White House now east and west wings, and they are changed weekly. Wow! Wow.
Absolutely amazing. I can’t wait for 2012- this guy has GOT to go!
